Cape Hatteras Art Teacher and Students Continue Brightening the Sandbar with Street Art

Cape Hatteras Secondary School Art Teacher, Justin Paxton continues painting the Island with his students. It has been a tough 2019 Hurricane Season for Hatteras but all of his murals continue to brighten our little sandbar. Justin created the Mural Club for students to join last year to encourage more upcoming local artists to join in his work. The local island kids are pretty lucky to have such a great role model who encourages the arts!

Congratulation’s to Justin for receiving the Cape Hatteras and Dare County Teacher of the Year Awards. Cape Hatteras voted for him through students and staff. He then went through an interview with members of the Dare county central office. Picked out of 11 teachers in Dare county.

Over the past six months or so I have followed the club around the island as they completed murals at several new locations; Buddy Foster’s in Hatteras, the BP Gas station Car Wash in Avon, the Buxton post office and on a Volkswagen Bug at the Scratchmade Snackery. When you visit the island be sure to check out the local street art.
