Shelly Island, Hurricane Jose Swell, Surfing, Cape Point, Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Today September 16, 2017 I celebrated my birthday a day late on Shelly Island off Cape Point. Hurricane Jose brought some swell. Surfers were paddling hard and taking a beating, just for a chance to catch a 200 yard ride down what looked like a point break. A small cove area formed between Cape Point and Shelly Island which was perfect during low tide for children to play and dogs and people to walk across. Beachcombers, surfers, kayakers, dogs, seagulls, paddle boarders, observers, fisherman, you name it there was something to do for the whole family. Each time I go the island changes, who knows how long it will be here. I highly recommend bringing your family and checking it out if you have the chance. Visit Hatteras Island!
