Maternity Portraits at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Buxton, North Carolina

On May 6, 2017 I met Austin and Gabriella at the Old Lighthouse Beach to capture their maternity session. After the storms that rolled through the island the day before, clouds rolled in providing us with a perfect sunset backdrop.

Their love story is quite sweet. The first time Gabbie ever laid eyes on Austin was at the local gym where she was employed. Gabbie and her best friend were making their usual rounds ensuing that all equipment was in its proper place before the evening crowd showed up. As they were sorting out all of the free weights, she noticed a man she had never seen before. Not only was she intrigued because she thought she knew every member but because he was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen.

She tried not to be too obvious, but of course that did not go well. As she caught herself staring and tried to look away his eyes were all ready on her, she was so embarrassed so she just smiled and walked away.

As time went on, she began to notice him more often, almost everyday to be exact. Although she was very much attracted to him and wanted to know more about him she knew she was to busy for anything serious so she decided to ignore the urges. As the months went by she was still fighting the urge to talk to him, she finally did it.  Gabbie got the nerve to say “hello:… well, mainly because it was a part of her job description. He looked up at her, a little surprised but happy, flashed his beautiful smile at her and said ” hi, how are you?”  Gabbie said she remembers feeling butterflies the second he spoke and all she could say was “good, have a good workout”. He laughed and went on with his day.

As the days went on, their casual conversations became more frequent until one day he decided that their talk was not long enough. A few hours after he left she looked at her phone and there it was. A message from Austin. They went back and forth for a few hours until he did the unexpected. He asked her out on a date. She tried to play it cool and not seem overly excited, she said yes. After talking some more, she thought about why she never spoke to him in he first place and remembered that she had absolutely no time to for a serious relationship. She was working two full time jobs and taking some time off to learn more about  herself, luckily he understood and felt the same.

The day after our never ending conversation Gabbie suggested they casually hung out as friends. The plan was to head over to his place right after her shift. Although she knew it it was not serious, she could not help but feel butterflies as she pulled up to his house. Once inside she was hit with a strange feeling she never felt before, pure comfort and peacefulness. All of the nerves had disappeared. Their conversations flowed as if they had known each other their entire lives. Before they knew it it was 2:00am and she had to be at work at 9:00 so they said goodbye for now. She had not even gotten out of his driveway before she heard her phone ring. She could not believe he wanted to continue talking, not only that night but every single day after.

Although they were both busy and had a lot of personal things going on, they always found time each day to see one another.  Not a second of her day went by that she was not thinking about him. It has only been a couple of months and they had already said ” I love you” and were planning on moving in with each other. There was no denying, even after that first day, they were meant to be together. They had something rare, a once in a lifetime type of love. Fast-forward, and they now have a house, dog, and baby boy on the way. Their lives have taken many unexpected turns but they are together in the journey. They grow more in love each day and know in their hearts that they found the other half to make them whole.
