Hatteras Island, North Carolina is one of the most magical places on earth. I fell in love with the island in 2008. I spent the last eight summers on the island with my daughter Emma Sage. She has been a daily subject/victim to my lens. It seems as if she is always doing something worth capturing. Through photographing my daughter, I found my passion as a photographer.
Primarily residing in the Baltimore-metro area. For years I have built my photography business traveling the east coast. Traveling from Philadelphia, PA to Charleston, SC. Photographing weddings, portraits and events. Spending the past eight summers on Hatteras Island, promoting beach weddings and portraits. Winning both the Angie’s List Super Service Award and Wedding Wire Couple’s Choice Awards, several years in a row.
My goal since first arriving to Avon, NC, Hatteras Island, to move my life and my business here full time. Three years ago I was able to buy our home on the island. We slowly became/are still becoming a part of this tight knit creative community. I joined the Outer Banks Wedding Association and the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. Thus helping me network in the OBX community.
This past year I re-branded and relocated my award winning photography business. Re-branded the formally known Photography By Jenni name to Epic Shutter Photography. Trademarking the trade name and logo “Smile and wave. One epic shutter at a time.” Relocated to Hatteras Island, NC. Now only servicing Hatteras Island, Ocracoke Island and the entire Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.
I have been fortunate enough to share my life, my dreams and this island with such a wonderful child. My daughter Emma Sage is the lovely face in all the photograph’s below. I have the joy of raising a creative, artistic, musical child on a sandbar. Growing up island is a good way of describing it! As a local mom recently described her children in a photo she posted. After living near the city on a farm for years. Traveling 20 minutes in traffic just to buy a gallon of milk. Then spending months on Hatteras Island only inevitably to return to the rat race.
This past summer I packed my business and our life and moved full time to our home on Hatteras Island, NC. I have never seen my daughter so happy, I have never felt so alive. In God’s country you can be free to be creative, free from the concrete jungle of burden. I knew from a young age, Emma was special. I knew she needed to be in an environment that supported her old soul, artistic brained self.
Before we moved to the island full time, I was warned the winter time is long and can take it’s toll. The island is not meant for everyone. Not everyone can handle the long, un-lucrative, desolate winters. It is fair to say we have made if through a full winter on a sandbar. The quiet time helped me dive into my business and my own personal soul searching. I am looking forward to a busy on-season on the OBX and to all the opportunities that are yet to come!
